Glycomimetics are synthetic molecules that mimic the structure and function of carbohydrates. The combination of glycomimetics with oligonucleotides allows the combination of their respective properties, thus enabling the development of hybrid molecules with both the targeting ability of glycomimetics and the gene regulation or gene silencing properties of oligonucleotides.

Achieving glycomimetic-oligonucleotide binding involves a series of chemical reactions and strategies to covalently link the glycomimetic molecule to the oligonucleotide. The specific methods used to prepare sugar mimics and oligonucleotides can vary depending on the desired application and the chemistry of the molecules involved.
